Sunburst At Midnight

The life of Christ was like a garden
Filled with flowers of beauty rare.
His words were clothed in eloquent splendor,
The will of the Father He came to bear.

All His life was filled with goodness
A slave of man, this Son of God.
His hands were stretched in love to others
So sweet, so kind, a comforting rod.

But all the beauty of this glory
By which He had made the Father known
Was gone from sight in the darkness,
Crucified, entombed, like a seed sown.

Then like a sunburst in the midnight
While dawn did break the day
Angels came in their splendor
And rolled the stone away.

The guards did quake in their terror,
They fell like dead men to the clay.
The seal of Rome had now been broken
God’s love in His Son, had come to stay.

Once again we look about us
And see the darkness creeping in.
We search for hope but it eludes us
Our world is filled with so much sin.

But on this Easter, though in the darkness,
I see the rays of a brighter day.
God’s Son again will soon be coming,
“Come on home”, He’s sure to say.

Oh yes, while in this darkness
Another Sunburst is gathering near.
The Lights of Home are rising yonder,
His resurrection we’re soon to share…
